Teledentistry Killed the Cash-Only Dream. Insurance Won't Reimburse It.
Teledentistry Killed the Cash-Only Dream. Insurance Won't Reimburse It.
Every platform selling "remote monitoring" and "virtual check-ins" makes the same pitch: reduce chair time, increase revenue. But insurance doesn't reimburse video calls with dentists. They just don't. Medicaid won't. Private plans won't.
What you can do: RDH-led virtual consults, initial exams, and post-op reviews. That's reimbursable in some states, not others. But a dentist on a video call? You're working for free.
This matters because you're getting pitched on technology that sounds good but doesn't change your bottom line. Before you drop $15K on a teledentistry platform, ask your DSO or rep point-blank: "What diagnosis codes reimburse for this?" If they hesitate, walk.
